## Three surfaces, one funnel

### When to use post-purchase, and when not to.

Oak makes offers in three places. Post-purchase has the most attention and the least risk, so it suits a product the shopper didn't come for.

**Checkout**

- When: before the shopper pays.
- Payment: same transaction.
- Best for: things that belong in the box.
- Risk: sits in the payment path.

**Post-purchase**

- When: right after payment, before the confirmation.
- Payment: charged to the same card, no re-entry.
- Best for: a second product they didn't come for, with a real discount.
- Risk: none to the original order.

**Thank-you**

- When: on the confirmation page.
- Payment: a separate, new order.
- Best for: a last, low-pressure nudge.
- Risk: none. It's a new order.

Each one is a trigger, an offer, and the post-purchase seat switched on. About two minutes apiece. Product names below are from a demo skincare store, not an Oak Upsell catalogue.

- **Discovery — bought skincare? Show the bestseller they skipped.** IF collection is Skincare, OFFER Hydrating Serum, 25% off.
- **Stock up — bought one? Offer a second at a better price.** IF quantity is 1, OFFER more of what they bought, 20% off.
- **Let Shopify pick — anything else? Show the recommendation.** IF always, OFFER Shopify's recommendation, 10% off.

## How do I install and set up Oak Upsell?

Install the app from the Shopify App Store, then build one funnel. A funnel is a trigger, an offer, and where it shows; stores report about two minutes per funnel.

1. **Install.** Add Oak Upsell from the Shopify App Store: https://apps.shopify.com/oak-post-purchase — free to install, no order caps.
2. **Create a funnel.** Give it a trigger, an offer, and the placements it may use.
3. **Set the trigger.** Cart total, subtotal, quantity, product count, specific products, excluded products, product tag, collection, or always. AND within a group, OR across groups.
4. **Pick the offer.** Specific products, a collection, Shopify's pick, or more of what they just bought. Discounted or full price.
5. **Choose the placements.** Checkout, post-purchase, thank-you page. Turn each one on or off per funnel; use one, two, or all three.
6. **Order the funnels.** They run in priority order and the first one that matches wins. Everything else stays quiet.
7. **Edit the wording.** Every string the shopper reads is editable ("Add to order", "Decline this offer"). No code, no theme edits.
